Scott Coker Is Totally Open To Cross Promotion With The UFC
This weekend there is no UFC, but Bellator is going strong at MSG, featuring a rare cross-promotion fight. Ahead of this, Bellator President Scott Coker talks about the potential of more similar matches.
Bellator is headed to New York this weekend, with a solid card. The event features bouts with Chael Sonnen, Rory MacDonald, and more. However, one of the more surprisingly underrated fights on the card is a Bantamweight title fight. It is a cross-promotion bout between Bellator’s Darrion Caldwell, and ONE’s Kyoji Horiguchi. This is a rematch from a bout that took place in ONE, where Kyoji won.
Ahead of this event, Coker was speaking at the media day. It was brought up the idea of he doing an event with the UFC, and he was very open to the idea. (via MMAJunkie)
“Listen, it’s not their business model to do that, but if they want to get it on, let’s do it. We would not be opposed to that.”
Coker continued, doubling down on his willingness to put his fighters against the UFC’s any day of the week.
“Absolutely. I mean, c’mon. We got some killers in this league. If they want to get it on, let’s do it.”
If the UFC and Bellator could work together, there would be tons of amazing fight match-ups. However, considering how 3 of the top 4 fighters on the card were former UFC fighters, there may be sense of deja vu. Either way, Scott Coker is down and so is MiddleEasy.
Bellator 222 takes place Friday night, at Madison Square Garden.
