There was a judge cage side at UFC Sweden tonight that was so dead-set on Gunnar Nelson keeping his undefeated record that he actually gave him the victory; 48-47, which flew directly in the face of another judge that scored it 50-44. How can two men be looking at the same fight yet be so far apart? Maybe it’s Sweden’s second-best educational systems, teaching men to think objectively for themselves, but then, how can anyone think Gunnar Nelson won more than a single, close round today?
Even Nelson’s corner was telling him to push the pace in Icelandic, while saying in English he was winning (to throw off Story’s spies). A good, tough fight from two men is completely ruined by this strange and unnecessary disparity of scores.
Yes, Gunnar Nelson looked good to start. Yes, Rick Story was leaking early and his eye grew puffy and turned a shade of heirloom tomato, and yes, EA UFC’s two newest characters are coming off losses, but that’s alright. Rick Story looks like he still has something left in him, and at 13-1-1, Gunnar Nelson gets to go back to the drawing board and think about a new weight class perhaps. He looked like he was getting pushed around by Story out there.
And in the end, Gunnar was classy as hell. That should be a new meme – Classy Gunnar Nelson.
Judge gives gift of 48-47, admits defeat.
