UFC women’s flyweight Molly McCann is trying to get over the hump and get back to the fold as she takes on Julija Stoliarenko at UFC London this weekend. For “Meatball,” Erin Blanchfield is on course to becoming the best in their division but her plan is to also be up there and follow in the footsteps of Michael Bisping or Leon Edwards.

Molly is no Gatekeeper

Speaking to Sky Sports, McCann opened up about how she sees her future playing out coming off a submission loss to Blanchfield, which was arguably the biggest defeat of her UFC career. According to “Meatball,” she didn’t succumb to dejection and she’s out to beat the odds and join the ranks of UFC champions from England.

“What I’ve noticed in my career is when I’ve beat people, they peak and then they tend to come to drop but if someone beats me, they tend to fight for the world title next, so I don’t wanna be a gatekeeper or I don’t want to just be a name for the fans I really wanna be, I wanna be a Bispng, I wanna be a Leon and I just think, again people could say that I’m crazy or people in this position are crazy but if none of us believe we could do it, we wouldn’t be putting our lives on the line, we wouldn’t be putting our families through it and be in everyone’s life, being starved and all the time in my family parties,” McCann explained.

Blanchfield only needed less than one round to submit McCann. Despite the tough loss, “Meatball” isn’t bitter. In fact, she even predicted that Blanchfield will wind up becoming the best flyweight fighter of this generation.

“I think she’s gonna be the best of us for the time,” McCann added.

Moving on

Heading into her next fight, McCann revealed that she had to overcome setbacks both mentally and emotionally. She’s happy to be finally back in her competitive form and she’s now ready to bounce back stronger.

“Very clam, very relaxed. I’ve not felt this before so let’s pray it goes [well],” McCann said of status coming into her next fight. “I’m just really excited to have a go… I took two months off, cost me life for just being like it’s just literally a snowball everyday and I just have to like make sure that [my mind] was OK and this [my heart] was OK and then it was, I came back to the gym and signed for this fight.”

Prior to losing to Blanchfield, McCann became one of the most exciting UFC fighters at present, having gone unbeaten in three consecutive fights. She hopes a big win this weekend could mark the beginning of her quest for the UFC championship.
