Fan favorite flyweight Molly McCann returned to the Octagon on Saturday night at UFC 281 as the promotion invaded the world-famous Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Winner of three-in-a-row, the Liverpudlian squared off against another top flyweight prospect in Erin Blanchfield. With both fighters lingering just on the outside of the division’s top 10, a victory could thrust either one into potential contender status.
Round 1
Both fighters came out trading leg kicks. McCann caught a leg kick and landed a glancing left hook. Blanchfield ducked under a swinging McCann and scored a takedown, immediately getting into side control. Blanchfield trapped McCann’s arm with a crucifix and started landing short shots on McCann before hitting the two-minute mark of the round. Attempting to get out of the hold, McCann practically handed Blanchfield her arm who locked in a kimura forcing McCann to tap out.
Official Result: Erin Blanchfield defeats Molly McCann via submission (kimura) at 3:37 of Round 1
