- Michael Chandler is targeting Max Holloway for the BMF belt
- “Iron” plans to beat Conor McGregor first and see if he could take on “Blessed” and eventually fight for the lightweight belt
Michael Chandler expressed his desire to face Max Holloway for the BMF title possibly after beating Conor McGregor at UFC 303.
Michael got his eyes on the BMF belt
Speaking to The Mac Life, “Iron” revealed his plan to take on “Blessed” following Holloway’s savage knockout win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 300. Chandler doesn’t have an idea when the fight could possibly go down but what he guarantees is that it would be “at some point” after his bout with McGregor.
“Max would be a guy I would love to fight for that belt at some point. Obviously, I got a job to take care of here in 76 days, but, man, I would love to fight for that BMF belt eventually, too and the lightweight belt as well,” Chandler said.
“Probably my biggest downfall is I’m not the greatest self-promoter when it comes to telling people exactly who I am and how I operate,” he continued. “But there is nobody who embodies the BMF belt the way that they fight more than me. So, I’ll let my fighting do the talking, and I’m sure people will be talking about the BMF belt when I dispatch of Conor in June but we’ll see, obviously, you’re going to have Holloway and [Ilia] Topuria fighting… but year, looks like the BMF belt will be in my future, just don’t know when.”
Michael needs to win first
Chandler has been longing to get a chance to fight McGregor and it’s finally happening at UFC 303 on June 29th. While his plan to fight Holloway for the BMF title seems to make sense at this point, “Iron” knows he needs to beat “Notorious” first before the UFC considers the idea.
Chandler is coming off a submission loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 281 in 2022. His upcoming fight with McGregor will take place at welterweight but he remains focused on competing for the lightweight title once again.
