Michael Bisping has weighed in on Colby Covington threatening Jon Anik.

Covington has been in MMA headlines since he was revealed as the UFC 286 main event backup, later being declared the next welterweight title contender. Some people, including Anik, believe Belal Muhammad should have received the opportunity because he’s been more active.

During a recent interview, ‘Chaos’ threatened to confront Anik in person for his comments. As a result, Covington has received backlash for the threats toward the beloved UFC commentator. Bisping reacted to the situation on his YouTube channel by saying:

“Jon Anik is a professional. He is the most professional person. Colby Covington, he took exception to that in the biggest way possible.Colby Covington’s threatening to kill Jon Anik. Uhh, but he’s not. He’s playing the game. Jon Anik, he’s in the clear. He’s not gonna get murdered, he’s not being unprofessional. He’s just stating facts.”

Covington’s last fight was a dominant unanimous decision win against Jorge Masvidal in March 2022. Since then, the former UFC interim welterweight champion has stayed out of the spotlight after allegedly being assaulted by Masvidal at a restaurant in Miami. ‘Chaos’ emerged out of nowhere at UFC 286 and quickly ruffled some feathers.

Michael Bisping believes Belal Muhammad should get the next welterweight title shot over Colby Covington

Belal Muhammad is on a nine-fight unbeaten streak, with four consecutive wins after a no-contest against Leon Edwards. Muhammad has been silencing the doubters by defeating elite opposition, including Sean Brady and Vicente Luque.

During the same YouTube video, Michael Bisping had this to say about Colby Covington earning the next welterweight title shot over Muhammad:

“The reality is it’s not hard to feel bad for Belal. The man has won eight in a row. He does have unfinished business with Leon Edwards. Now, of course, Colby Covington lost two title fights in a row to Kamaru Usman — beat Tyron Woodley [in between] — last time out, he went out there and beat Jorge Masvidal and he hasn’t fought for what’s been about a year now.”

Things can change quickly in MMA, but for now, Covington is expected to fight Leon Edwards for the UFC welterweight champions. Edwards is coming off a career-defining win where he had his hand raised for the second consecutive time against Kamaru Usman. ‘Chaos’ might be a bad matchup for the reigning champion, but ‘Rocky’ should never be underestimated.
