Belal Muhammad has declared he would slap Colby Covington for threatening UFC broadcast team member Jon Anik.

Former UFC interim welterweight champion Covington has been on the sidelines since taking on best friend-turned-enemy Jorge Masvidal in a grudge match at UFC 272 last March. He came out on top of the judges’ scorecards by a lopsided unanimous decision to get back in the winning column. Following the result, the duo got into an alleged physical altercation outside of a steak restaurant in Miami, resulting in litigation and Covington’s hiatus.

While Covington kept a largely low profile since the incident, he made headlines after weighing in as the backup fighter for the main event of UFC 286 this past weekend.

Belal Muhammad declares it’s on sight with Colby Covington

UFC president Dana White confirmed Colby Covington would get the next shot at gold against Leon Edwards during the post-fight press conference. Top-ranked welterweight contender Belal Muhammad took issue with the matchup as he believed he deserved the opportunity more. He alleged racism in a since-deleted tweet resulting in the ignition of a heated rivalry with Covington.

Jon Anik sided with Muhammad on the matter while hosting the latter on his podcast show. Covington wasn’t too pleased with Anik’s comments and pulled no punches in threatening him. Earlier today, Muhammad took to Twitter to respond to Covington’s threats with a declaration.

“I’ll be in Miami in a couple weeks keep that same energy I hope the clown of dada county shows his face,” continued Muhammad. “It’s on sight when I see this clown.”

Muhammad vows to slap Covington for threatening Jon Anik

‘Remember the Name’ vowed to make things physical with ‘Chaos’ for his threats to Jon Anik.

“Jon’s my brother I promise you he’s getting slapped just for disrespecting family,” he wrote.

He followed up with another message referencing the alleged scuffle between Masvidal and Covington outside the Papi Steak restaurant.

“Can’t wait for ufc 287 in Miami me and @Jon_Anik gonna be eating good.”

All signs point to Colby Covington being the top contender to challenge Edwards. ‘Rocky’ dismissed the idea of defending the title against Covington and refused to accept the fight. It remains to be seen when an official announcement is made and if things follow suit as indicated by the company president.
