Matt Hughes Responds To Covington’s Post Fight Interview
Colby Covington added to his personal brand of controversy on Saturday night, with some pretty rude comments about Matt Hughes. The UFC Hall of Famer has responded back to this statement.
Colby Covington put on a masterclass at UFC Newark. He out-struck Robbie Lawler, landing a personal record-breaking number of strikes. Additionally, he managed to takedown Lawler, who is known for his ridiculous takedown defense, an insane 10 times.
Following the announcement of the unanimous decision victory for Covington, he took to the microphone. First he thanks the Trump sons for being in attendance, and thanks the troops. However, things took a serious turn, as he blasted Lawler, and his good friend Matt Hughes.
“Let’s talk about The we learned tonight. it’s a strong lesson that robbie should have learned from his good buddy matt hughes. you stay off the tracks when the train’s coming through, junior! don’t matter if its a truck train or the colby train, get out the way!’
This reference by Covington, is a serious jab at Matt Hughes being recently hit by a train. He spent some time in a coma, and suffered serious brain trauma. Although news has come out recently, that put Hughes in a negative light, these comments were still harsh.
However, Matt Hughes responded to these comments, on Instagram.
“Not sure if @colbycovmma should have use my accident as fuel for his post-fight trash talk, but that was one heck of a fight. Nice win for @americantopteam, and @ruthless_rl always puts on a good fight. Reminder though, this is the fighting world. People trash talk and you gotta have thick skin”
All things considered, Matt Hughes was pretty understanding of the whole thing. He knows the nature of the game, and complimented both Covington and Lawler. Hughes managed to roll with the punches.
