Colby Covington Out-Duels Robbie Lawler, Wins After 25 Minutes Of War!

Ultimate Fighting Championships returns to the ESPN airwaves for the 2nd time in two weeks tonight (Saturday, August 3, 2019) with its UFC Newark event, which takes place in New Jersey’s Prudential Center.

This fight card is headlined by an intriguing Welterweight contest between the former Interim champ Colby “Chaos” Covington and the ex-170-pound king Robbie “The Ruthless” Lawler. The third man inside the Octagon is Keith Peterson.

Robby Lawler wears a white T-shirt and black shorts, while Covington is in a black T-shirt and blue shorts. Of course, “Chaos” carries the USA flag too! The match kicks off!

Round 1

Covington refused to touch gloves, starts aggressively, with a Superman punch, and now he chases Robbie. He goes for a takedown, but Robbie stops this attempt well, Covington still pressures forward.

Covington attempts double-leg, Lawler sprawls back, and gets back to his feet.

Lawler throws knees against the fence, but Covington reverses him and goes for a single-leg takedown… oh, no, this is a big problem for Robbie, he is on the ground! Good takedown for Colby!

Robbie stands up somehow and delivers a reverse elbow. Covington takes his back and drags him down again, Colby goes for a choke but Robbie survives and he is defending well at the moment. Covington goes for a choke again but Robbie somehow succeeds to get up again. Lawler lands a few strikes, but Colby presses him against the cage.

Covington takes him down again and pressures, but Robbie stands up and weathers some nasty punches. The round ends, 10-9 Covington.

Round 2

Covingtons starts the round with the kicks, misses, Lawler slips well, but Colby presses him against the fence well, Robbie is in trouble again. Lawler defends a takedown, but Colby attempts a spinning back elbow, Robbie ducks under and increases the distance.

Colby feints a strike and pulls him down to the mat again, but Lawler gets up. Covington with a left head kick, Robbie defended it, but Colby scores another takedown.

Lawler is back on his feet, but he eats an elbow from Colby.

Covington pressures him against the fence, jab plus body kick. Lawler only eats shots, he does nothing in return! Great striking followed by a nasty low kick, pure domination of Covington. 10-9 Colby.

Round 3

Lawler goes forward, but Covington counters him well and takes him down again. Lawler gets back to his feet, but Colby sticks like glue and continues taking him down. Lawler sprawls and catches him with a left-right. Covington feints a bit but goes for a takedown again, why Lawler didn’t try a single knee?!

Covington even attempted a flying knee before he went for a takedown attempt!!! Lawler gets out by eating strike after strike. Covington pours pressure, both men eating heavy blows. Lawler jabs him hard, but Colby changes levels well. Colby lands body kicks, it seems Robbie is hurt. 10-9 Covington.

Round 4

The championship rounds are underway. Covington attacks over and over. Strikes are not hard, but the volume is terrible, it seems Colby’s cardio is way better! Lawler cannot pick his pace.

Fighters in the clinch, knee Colby, uppercut Robbie. Lawler lands a few hooks, but he cannot move Colby away. Short strikes Colby, a takedown attempt, but finally stuffed by Robbie Lawler, well done!

Leg kicks Colby, Lawler closes in, but misses over and over. Colby punishes him with nasty blows. Right punch to the body followed by a knee. Colby scores another takedown.

Lawler on his feet again, Covington pressures him over and over. Short slashing elbows off the clinch Covington, Lawler tries to defend. Fighters trading shots, the round ends, 10-9 Covington.

Round 5

Nothing changes, the same story continues. Colby is aggressive again. Lawler denies a shot, a knee from Colby on the inside. 3-2 Lawler and he looks furious at the moment. Counter left hands, followed by strong body shots. Fighters trading jabs, Covington clinches up. Uppercuts on both sides, this is a good exchange. It seems Robbie is really angry!

Covington strikes again, jab exchange, Lawler walks forward with his hands down. Covington tries a tornado kick and lands a spinning back fist to end the match. 10-9 Lawler but unsure, it was a close round.

Final Result: Colby Covington def. Robbie Lawler via Unanimous Decision (50-44, 50-45, 50-45)
