Jorge Masvidal revealed how the bad blood with Colby Covington started.
Eight days. Eight more days until Masvidal and Covington throw down in the main event of UFC 272. Until that happens, we will be inundated with trash talk and stories from the former best friends and teammates. And that is totally fine because it keeps getting better and better, as well as deeper and darker.
Money Matters
On Friday, ESPN revealed a snippet of a firey split-screen interview between Masvidal and Covington, which took place on ESPN +’s Stephen A’s World. While most of it was just Stephen A. Smith trying to control the interview, Masvidal revealed how the bad blood between Covington and American Top Team started.
“It first started off with this piece of shit not paying my coach $12,500, for a fight that he had coached him his entire fu*king career. Then when he had the chance to finally pay him back the $12,500, he didn’t,” Masvidal said.
“So, I went out there and paid my coach out of my own pocket. Since then it’s already been I’m going to fu*k him up at some point. Look at him smiling, he can’t even keep a straight face, yet everyone at American Top Team knows that’s why he got kicked out, and he’s soon to get kicked out of this gym [MMA Masters] because you don’t pay your bills. You’re drowning in debt from all of the loan sharks you owe money to in South Florida, you know what’s going to happen if you don’t pay them. Keep smiling, little bitch with your fake teeth.”
Covington tried to respond by saying he didn’t get paid that much, with Masvidal not wanting him get a word out.
“It’s fake news,” Covington replied. “Anything Jorge says is a lie. He’s all talk but no walk. Yeah, he’s getting paid a lot of money like Dak Prescott for the Cowboys, but he ain’t doing nothing. He ain’t doing anything.”
“You can go ask his master, Dan Lambert. His master knows how much I actually got paid.”
Watch how heated it got for yourself.
Smith even tweeted out that he couldn’t keep them from jawing at each other.
“I tried people. I tried! This was not an interview. These brothers are not playing. They hate each other….it appears. Fireworks are coming. No doubt about it. Dammmmmnnnnn!!!!!!”
Covington vs. Masvidal goes down March 5 in Las Vegas, Nevada, at UFC 272.
