Former UFC bantamweight title contender Marlon Moraes has been sworn in as a police officer in Florida.

A quick transition

It has only been exactly a year wince Moraes last fought professionally in MMA but now, “Magic” is already embarking on a new career. Last week, the Davie Police Department in Florida welcomed Moraes as one of the three newest officers who have completed their law enforcement certification and sworn into the department.

“Last week, Chief Steve Kinsey swore in three of our newest officers, Michael Gigliotti, Marlon Moraes, and Jordan Highsmith.

We welcome our new officers to the Davie Police Department!,” the post read.

Marlon was a UFC bantamweight star

A tough seven-fight losing streak prompted Moraes to retire last year but prior to that, “Magic” was one of the best bantamweight fighters in the UFC. Some of the most notable wins Moraes has on his resume was a decision win over Jose Aldo at UFC 245, a Ko win over Aljamain Sterling and John Dodson in 2017.

In 2019, Moraes fought for the vacant UFC bantamweight title but unfortunately lost to Henry Cejudo. After a series of losses, Moraes left the UFC for PFL, in which he went winless in three consecutive fights.

Last year, Moraes finally decided to call it quits with a pro MMA record of 23-13-1.
