Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Manager Says GSP Fight Is Next
Most people seem to agree that the next fight for Khabib Nurmagomedov should be Tony Ferguson. However, Khabib’s manager Ali Abdelaziz thinks he should fight Georges St. Pierre.
Khabib put on a dominate performance against Dustin Poirier at UFC 242. Following that win, the most logical option would be the ever-elusive fight with Tony Ferguson. The two have been matched up four separate times, but have never fought. Moreover, Tony is on a legendary 12 fight winning streak.
However, according to an interview with Ali Abdelaziz, who manages Khabib, this may not be next. Khabib has been calling for a fight with GSP, who has reciprocated the emotion. Abdelaziz says that this could be the next fight.
“Nobody really cares about what Tony says. Nobody gives a s–t really. As far as I know, GSP is next, it’s not tony next. That is what I want. Tony doesn’t get what he wants. We get what Khabib wants, and if Khabib calls me and says he wants Georges St-Pierre, Georges St-Pierre will be next.
Ali continued, explaining why GSP is the right fight to make.
Georges is my friend for 10 years, and I know Georges wants to fight Khabib. If you’re going to compare Tony Ferguson, he beat a whole bunch of guys, but he never been a champion. I’m talking about if Khabib is going to fight for legacy, a fight with Georges St-Pierre will be a huge fight. Dana White is a business man. That’s why he’s the best promoter of all time. I think him and Georges St-Pierre make a lot more money and more headlines. People will care more. It’s a fight for who is the greatest of all time.”
Ali seems to have forgotten that Tony did win a title, albeit and interim one. However, he never lost that title, only had it stripped after getting injured. Add that to the literal record-setting win streak in the UFC’s deepest division, and it only makes sense for Khabib to fight Tony.
