Former PFL champion Kayla Harrison is still hopeful she can fight Amanda Nunes.

While Harrison was the PFL lightweight champ and Nunes was the UFC’s bantamweight and featherweight champ, Harrison was vocal in wanting that scrap. However, Harrison ended up losing to Larissa Pacheco and hasn’t fought in 2023 while Nunes beat Irene Aldana at UFC 289 and retired from MMA.

Despite Nunes retiring and Harrison still having not fought, she is vocal in wanting that fight to happen as she wants to test herself against the greatest of all time.

Kayla Harrison hopeful to face Amanda Nunes

“Yeah for sure. I have a lot of mixed emotions about her retiring. Number one, I’m happy for her and sad for me. I think that it’s tough because I feel like everything that I said maybe wasn’t received the way I intended it to be received,” Kayla Harrison said to TMZ Sports. “I put Amanda up here. She is the greatest of all time. She was the woman. And I wanted to be the woman. And, to me, that’s like the greatest compliment I can give someone. I value what you have so much and who you are so much that I’m like chasing you.

“That is kind of what I want people to do with me someday. I want people to say I will beat Kayla Harrison, that is the goal to continue to grow the sport and continue to reach new levels and push each other. I’m happy for her,” Harrison continued. “She’s done everything she’s wanted to do. She’s got a beautiful family, she’s living the dream. I’m sad for me because it is a fight that I wanted.”

Although Kayla Harrison still wants to fight Amanda Nunes, she does think the Brazilian will stay retired and be with her family.

As for Harrison’s MMA career, she is 15-1 as a pro and hasn’t fought since November of last year when she suffered a decision loss to Pacheco. In her career, Harrison holds notable wins over Pachecho, twice, Cindy Dandois, and Genah Fabian among others.
