  • Julianna Pena voiced her persistent desire to fight Amanda Nunes for the third time
  • “The Venezuelan Vixen” has been calling for a trilogy bout since August last year

Julianna Pena is getting tired of waiting for a concrete response to her call for a third fight with Amanda Nunes. And now, “The Venezuelan Vixen” is demanding “Lioness” to hand her an instant rematch just as how she agreed to it for their second meeting.

Pena isn’t taking a NO for an answer

It has been almost six months since Pena lost her UFC women’s bantamweight belt to Nunes at UFC 277. However, not one bit has changed on the former champ’s stance as she is still desperately calling out the Brazilian for a rubber match.

Taking her thoughts to social media, Pena expressed her disappointment over the lack of response from Nunes and the UFC about her call for a trilogy match. For “The Venezuelan Vixen,” after she dethroned “Lioness” in December of 2021, a rematch took place in July of 2022. Hence, Pena believes it’s only proper that Nunes “do the same” this time.

“In what sport do they go 1-1 and then stop? Not even in #rockpaperscissors do they stop at 1-1. @Amanda_Leoa I gave you the immediate rematch, time for you to do the same. Sign it,” Peña wrote on Twitter.

Pena’s tweet came after ESPN Deportes’ Carlos Legaspi reported that the looming Nunes vs. Irene Aldana bout set for March 4 is far from done and there’s still no opponent on the slate for the reigning women’s bantamweight champ.

“Can confirm that the reported fight between Amanda Nunes and Irene Aldana for March 4th is not on the works at the moment… Aldana is one of the front runners to face Nunes, but no opponent or date has been offered so far,” Legaspi tweeted.

How many more times

As it stands, this has been the fourth time Pena has called out Nunes for a rematch since their last meeting. Pena began proposing for the trilogy bout shortly after the rematch. She pitched another one this past October and followed it up with another callout in December.

Pena submitted Nunes at UFC 269 to become the women’s bantamweight champion. However, she quickly lost her belt in the rematch after Nunes dominated her for almost the entire 25 minutes.
