Will Smith’s slap at the Oscars

Earlier this year in March, Will Smith overshadowed each winner of the 94th Academy Awards. For an occasion when A-list celebrities are supposed to be on their best behavior, Smith made headlines for all the wrong reasons. Over a month since the incident, the talk of his action continues to rage on.

Chris Rock took to stage at the Oscars for a comical bit to entertain the audience when he got physically assaulted by Smith. The comedian compared Smith’s partner Jada to GI Jane based on her baldness. Unbeknownst to Rock, her condition is a result of her suffering from alopecia areata.

Initially, Smith laughed at the joke before turning over to look at an upset Jada when he decided to take the matter into his own hands. He slapped Rock in front of the entire audience and proceeded to return to his seat before apologizing for his behavior in his award-winning speech at the ceremony.

Joe Rogan & BJ Penn don’t think Will Smith would’ve slapped ‘The Rock’

In the latest episode of Joe Rogan Experience MMA #123 podcast, mixed martial artist pioneer BJ Penn sat down with UFC’s color commentator and comedian for a chat where they discussed Smith’s physical assault. Rogan was talking to the legendary Hawaiian about Jamie Fox playing Mike Tyson in an upcoming movie.

This led Penn to direct the conversation towards the admirable work Smith did when he played Muhammad Ali in the past. “You can tell he did a lot of boxing. His hands look good,” Rogan weighed in on the 53-year-old actor’s portrayal of Ali in 2001.

It was at this moment that Penn poked fun at Will Smith. “Right, his hands looked good the other night,” Penn responded sarcastically.

The pair laughed at the sly dig Penn took as Rogan criticized Smith’s technique of slapping. He believes that the ‘Fresh Prince’ could use some work due to the fact that it didn’t even rock Chris Rock.

“I think that needs some work. It didn’t even stagger Chris Rock,” said Rogan.

Penn took another jab at the actor when he echoed another joke from the internet saying, “‘You know why he hit Chris Rock because it wasn’t the Rock.’”

Rogan laughed off the absurdity of the idea declaring, “There’s no chance in hell.” He was still astounded at the fact that Smith got away with the hit and lambasted his actions telling Penn, “Such a crazy thing, to think you could get away with it.”
