Former UFC title contender and two-time ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship winner Jeff Monson plan to renounce his United States citizenship. Monson is a familiar name to old-school combat sports fans, as he has over 100 professional fights over 25 years of competing; having fought for promotions such as the UFC, Strikeforce, PRIDE, DREAM, and M-1 Global.

In recent years, Monson has declared himself to be an anarcho-communist, moving to Russia and being granted citizenship by President Vladimir Putin in 2018. His name began to reappear in headlines recently when Monson voiced his support for the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He has even gone as far as denouncing the United States, ultimately blaming them for the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Jeff Monson Renounces US Citizenship

Taking to his Instagram, Monson posted a statement revealing that he’s in the process of renouncing his US Citizenship. He also noted that he wants nothing to do with the United States, whose government and military he claims cause “unprecedented suffering.”

“ I don’t want to have anything to do with America,” Monson Said. “I’m really going through the process of renunciation of US citizenship. This process can take a couple of months. I miss my family, but that’s it. I don’t want to have anything to do with America. The US government and military are causing unprecedented suffering with their wars, sanctions and intervention in the affairs of other countries around the world. I love Russia and the Russian people, I am happy here.”

Jeff Monson, the former combat sports star, reiterated his pro-Russian views during an interview with RT, a broadcaster funded by the Russian state.

“Under the circumstances, it’s impossible for me, with a clear conscience, to hold an American passport (and) to be an American citizen, especially now because of the situation with Ukraine,” Monson said. “American started this war, instigated the coup in 2014… Since then, they’ve been supplying Ukraine with weapons to destabilize the country. In essence, (they) started a civil war in Ukraine.

“Why? Why is this? Well, the weapons manufacturers in America are making billions. Who’s really making the money on this? The American corporations, JP Morgan, BlackRock; they’re making deals with (Volodymyr) Zelensky… (he’s) saying publicly, ‘We’re working with these companies to rebuild Ukraine.’ But Ukraine is broke, so how are they gonna pay this money back? They can’t,” Monson continued. “So what Zelensky is doing is he’s selling Ukraine piece by piece… Ukraine is gonna become a colony of corporate America… This is a real tragedy.”

As of late, it appears that former combat sports star Jeff Monson has shifted his focus to the world of Russian politics. In fact, the 52-year-old has already made strides in this new arena, having been elected to the parliament of Krasnogorsk – a city situated near Moscow – back in 2018.

Although he had begun his foray into politics, Monson continued to lace up his gloves and compete inside the cage up until 2022. In his final bout, a retirement fight after a tough loss to Datsik, Monson squared off against Alexandr Ilyasov in October of last year at Draka MMA: Governor’s Cup 19.
