Ian Machado Garry is hoping he can eventually share the Octagon with Colby Covington.
Garry is currently undefeated as a pro and is rising up the welterweight ranks, following his dominant one-sided decision win over Neil Magny. The Irishman is hoping to fight Stephen Thompson next, and after that, he wouldn’t mind facing Colby Covington as he says the former interim welterweight champ is his dream opponent.
Not only is Colby Covington his dream opponent, but Ian Machado Garry has full confidence he would thump him and KO him unconscious.
Garry vows to KO Covington
“Colby Covington. I would love to thump the mouth off him, Ariel. Oh my God, at home. The only thing that annoys me about that, is I’d have more fun doing that in Miami, in his backyard,” Garry said on The MMA Hour. “Walk into Miami, slap the mouth off him in front of all his fans. And I have no problem playing the heel, I have no problem going out there and being the bad guy for a weekend. Cause at the end of the day, when I put him unconscious, I’m gonna have a smile on my face.”
On paper, an Ian Machado Garry vs. Colby Covington fight makes a lot of sense, especially if the Irishman beats Stephen Thompson next and ‘Chaos’ loses to Leon Edwards for the belt.
However, Covington is focused on securing the welterweight title fight against Leon Edwards and whether or not he even has any interest in a matchup with Garry is uncertain. Yet, Garry is adamant the fight will happen and believes he would KO Covington to further prove he is a future champion.
Ian Machado Garry is currently ranked 11th at welterweight and is 13-0 as a pro. Prior to the dominant win over Neil Magny, he had his coming out party of sorts with a first-round TKO over Daniel Rodriguez.
