Rising UFC star Ian Garry explained how his relationship with his wife was impacted by the online WAG hoopla.

Garry and his wife, Layla Machado Garry, came under fire after it was discovered that she made a book years back on how to be a girlfriend or wife of a sportsman with high status and money. It led some online to share their belief that Garry is being used by his wife. Even UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland piled on, releasing a video saying Garry should get out of his marriage.

Ian Garry On How Relationship With Wife Was Impacted By Social Media Mob

Appearing on “The MMA Hour,” Ian Garry said that his wife has been called many horrible things throughout this ordeal, and he admitted it has affected the relationship. He says it has made them even stronger.

“I mean absolutely,” Garry said. “How could it not when people ─ my wife was called a pedophile, a sexual predator. That’s horrible to hear, that horrible to say about someone’s wife, the person that someone chose to marry and have a child with. There’s people out there saying my son isn’t mine, it’s somebody else’s. Of course it’s gonna be difficult for us because it’s a lot of hurt, it’s a lot of hate and people react differently to that hate. I’m someone who will kind of forgot all about it. I don’t want to hear about it, I don’t care about it but then Layla is like, ‘No, we need to talk about this. We need to talk through it because talking through it will eventually enable us to be able to be able to get over it better together,’ and that’s what we ended up doing.”

Helwani followed up by asking Garry if he felt it came with the territory due to his history of trash talk. Garry said he didn’t believe so, as he hasn’t crossed the line that many online have.
