Anthony Hernandez Smashes Edmen Shahbayzan, Scores TKO Win In Round 3 – UFC Vegas 73 Results (Highlights)

Middleweights meet in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 73.

Recently snapping a three-fight skid in his last fight, Edmen Shahbayzan is back against fellow Contender Series alumni Anthony ‘Fluffy’ Hernandez. Hernandez has won three straight inside the Octagon and will look to make it four in a row against Shahbayzan. 

Round 1:

Shahbayzan closes the distance with Hernandez, landing multiple strikes on the inside. Shahbayzan lands a sharp jab. Shahbayzan continues to pump out the jab. Hernandez shoots for a takedown against the cage but Shahbayzan stuffs it. In return Shahbayzan attempts a takedown and gets it. Hernandez tries for a guillotine but later abandons it, choosing to get back up to his feet. Hernandez goes for another takedown but Shahbayzan defends well again as the two fight for position in the clinch.

Hernandez and Shahbayzan trade strikes. Shahbayzan goes for a submission on the feet but goes for position on the ground. Hernandez reverses position, trying to tap out Shahbayzan with his signature guillotine. Shahbayzan escapes and Hernandz controls him on the ground for the moment. They go back up to their feet where Hernandez finds more success with a takedown. Hernandez goes for a rear-naked choke but Shahbayzan survives the attempt as well as the rest of the round.

Round 2:

Hernandez immediately presses Shahbayzan against the cage, trying to secure another takedown. Hernandez locks up the neck of Shahbayzan with a guillotine but doesn’t get it. They go back to their feet with Shahbayzan landing a great knee to the head of Hernandez. Shahbayzan attempts a takedown and Hernandez denies it, reversing position to his favor. Hernandez then gets a takedown of his own.

Shahbayzan is a hard man to keep down as he goes back up to his feet only for him to be taken down by Hernandez again. Hernandez goes for a head-arm choke with Shahbayzan showing grimace on his face. Shahbayzan manages to survive somehow and gets out of the stressful submission.

Hernandez seizes the back of Shahbayzan and then transitions to the top position, landing gritty ground and pound.

CDS: 10-9 Hernandez

Round 3:

Hernandez catches an early kick from Shahbayzan and takes him down. Hernandez lands a ton of strikes with top control. Punch after punch, it doesn’t take long for the referee to say enough is enough.
