Gilbert Burns made a statement in his first-round submission win over Neil Magny at UFC 283. After the fight, “Durinho” called out Colby Covington and he went on to talk about “Chaos” in his post-fight press conference. Burns even revealed how a past interaction with Covington went down.

A weird conversation with Chaos

According to Burns, more than three months ago, he and Covington had a conversation outside a Florida poker room. Aware of Covington’s reputation and silly antics, the Brazilian said he was “ready” to have a back and forth with “Chaos.” However, what happened next was the complete opposite as Covington repeatedly gave him props until it felt “weird.”

“To be honest, I saw Colby three and a half months ago. I played the Guitar. They have a Brazilian concert… and I think he just left the poker room.” Burns recalled. “And I was passing by and I looked in there and said, there’s Colby over there and I looked at him. And I shook my head and he said, ‘Come here.’ And I said, ‘Oh, shit, it’s on.’”

He continued, “And I walked to him and told my wife to wait and I was ready and said, ‘What’s up?’ And he said, ‘I’m a huge fan, brother.’ And he was super cool. I’m pretty honest right now. I don’t have to lie. He was super cool. ‘Oh, I’m a huge fan. I’m a character. I just wanna make money, I appreciate you. I know you have a beautiful family’ and he was super cool. And it was getting a little weird because it was continuous for over two minutes. ‘Bro, I like what you did in your last fight’ and I was just like, ‘Man, look at this guy.”

Eyes on Colby

Prior to making quick work of Magny, Burns suffered a decision loss to Khamzat Chimaev. Despite the defeat, “Durinho” is confident he could take out “Borz” and said he’s open to a rematch at any weight class. Burns is also keen on taking on Jorge Masvidal but his ultimate goal is to fight for the title this year.

However, the Brazilian thinks everyone has been ducking him and he apparently trimmed down his options, solely focusing on Covington at this point.
