Colby Covington believes Mike Tyson’s health could be at risk in his upcoming fight against Jake Paul.
On July 20, ‘The Problem Child’ will make history when he faces heavyweight boxing legend Mike Tyson in a ten-round boxing match. The controversial matchup featuring a 31-year age difference will air live on Netflix from the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Since the boxing match was announced, the combat sports community has delivered mixed reactions. As for UFC welterweight Colby Covington, he believes the fight is dangerous for Tyson, which he explained by saying this during an appearance on SOSCAST:
“I don’t like it at all. Mike [Tyson] still looks like a superhuman for 58, but he’s still 58 years old. He shouldn’t be fighting anymore. I don’t think it’s safe, I think it’s dangerous actually at that age. Your heart might explode. He gets hit in the head, he might have a brain bleed. That’s what I hope for, I hope Mike Tyson makes it through injury-free and doesn’t get hurt.”
Covington continued by accusing ‘The Problem Child’ of using steroids:
“I don’t like the fight. Jake [Paul] is in his mid-20s. He’s doing every chemical known to man. He’s literally a lab project. They’re just juicing him up, him and his brother. Everybody knows that. The machine is behind him, juicing him up, putting every chemical known to man. So, I think it’s going to end bad.”

Colby Covington predicts Jake Paul will ‘take away from Mike Tyson’s legacy’ with a first-round knockout
Mike Tyson is widely considered one of the most dangerous heavyweight boxers of all time. Unfortunately, the legendary ‘Iron’ is 58 years old and could struggle in the ten-round boxing match against the 27-year-old Jake Paul, who plans to add another impressive name to his boxing resume.
During the previously mentioned podcast, Colby Covington had this to say about Paul potentially taking away from Tyson’s legacy:
“I think Jake is going to knock him out within the first two minutes. If he doesn’t, it’ll be because he’s carrying him and he’s trying to make the freak show look like it’s a competitive fight. I hate the fight. I think it takes away from Mike Tyson’s legacy when a guy like this comes in and beats him. A “YouYuber” comes in and beats the baddest man on the planet and the most feared man.”
Mike Tyson last fought in November 2020 in an exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr. that was scored a draw. ‘Iron’ has recently released short training videos of him looking sharp for his age, but there are questions about how those skills will translate against Jake Paul after round one.
Meanwhile, Jake Paul is riding a three-fight winning streak since suffering his lone professional boxing loss against Tommy Fury. ‘The Problem Child’ last fought on March 2 and took out Ryan Bourland for his second consecutive knockout win, extending his record to 9-1 (6 KOs).
