An audio tape of Colby Covington speaking with Miami police during his altercation with Jorge Masvidal has been released.

Just a day after the videotape of Jorge Masvidal being arrested and booked in Miami was released to the public, audio of the other side of things has come out. The Real World Police YouTube channel has acquired the sound recording of Colby Covington retelling his side of the altercation to police officers.

“As soon as we’re about to walk across the street, I get side-swiped from the side,” Covington said h/t MMA Junkie. “Like, I get punched in the mouth real quick and kind of get dizzed [sic] up. I look up, and I see who it is. I can see in his eyes. It’s Jorge Masvidal. I can see his hair coming out of his hoodie, but he has a facemask on, a surgical facemask. But he’s saying, ‘You shouldn’t have f*cking talked about my kids, you shouldn’t have f*cking talked about my kids.’ So I was easily able to identify that’s his voice, that’s his eyes, that’s his hair, I know exactly who that is.”

Covington and Masvidal met inside the cage at UFC 272 on March 5th, two weeks later this altercation occurred. Masvidal confronted Covington outside of a Miami steak house and punched him in the mouth. Covington is pressing charges for Masvidal punching him in the face, damaging his teeth and his property. The police took Masvidal into custody and charged him with one count of aggravated battery as well as one count of criminal mischief.

I mean, the adrenaline is still kind of going right now, but he definitely rocked me,” he said. “I saw stars a little bit, but I stayed on my feet. I was just trying to get to safety. That’s all I was concerned about.”

Covington explained to the police that Masvidal was wearing a hoodie and a facemask but due to their shared past he knew it was him. The two used to be roommates in their early fighting days. The is a court date set for Masvidal’s charges in February
