Gilbert Burns is preparing for a war in his upcoming fight against Jack Della Maddalena

On March 9, the UFC will travel to Miami, Florida, for Sean O’Malley’s first bantamweight title defense against Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera. The UFC 299 pay-per-view main card has the potential to be one of the best of the year, as O’Malley vs. Vera 2 is joined by Dustin Poirier vs. Benoit Saint-Denis, Burns vs. Maddalena, and more.

Burns vs. Maddalena has been on fans’ radars since the matchup was announced, as both fighters are willing to engage in a striking war. ‘Durinho’ recently did an interview with The Allstar to discuss his upcoming fight and had this to say about his expectations:

“I’m getting ready for a war every single time. I don’t want to hope and get ready for one or two rounds to get ready for an easy fight. I want the opposite. I want to get ready for a war. If it ends up being easy, better, but I want to be ready for a war in case I need to deliver one.”

Burns followed up by explaining the stylistic matchup between him and Della Maddalena:

“I think he’s very tough. I think you got to mix it up, that’s going to be my key to win this fight, mix it up. I’m not going to be afraid to strike with his guy. I strike with a lot of high-level strikers. I think that’s where his strength is. I think if I mix it up, kicks, punches, takedowns, jiu-jitsu, wrestling, put a lot of volume on this guy. I think that’s going to be the key. I don’t think it’s going to be easy.”

Gilbert Burns hints at Colby Covington potentially faking his UFC 296 foot injury

Earlier this week, Colby Covington did an interview with Submission Radio and showcased an x-ray of the foot injury he suffered against Leon Edwards. Covington claimed the unexpected adversity was a primary reason for his disappointing loss in the UFC 296 main event.

During the previously mentioned interview with The Allstar, Gilbert Burns had this to say about Covington potentially faking the injury:

“He was going everywhere here [in Miami, Florida]… I saw him walking everywhere. The x-ray, I don’t see the x-ray. We saw this guy walking her everywhere in Miami, playing poker, going everywhere here, didn’t see no cast, didn’t see anything. I don’t know. It’s really hard to believe anything Colby says.”

Gilbert Burns has proven to be one of the most dangerous welterweight fighters on the planet. With that said, he could have his hands full against Jack Della Maddalena, as the Aussie rising superstar has looked impressive by winning six consecutive fights, four inside the distance, to start his UFC tenure.
