George St-Pierre is known as one of the best MMA fighters of all time. He held belts in two different weight classes during his run with the UFC. Now that St-Pierre is retired, he has more time to be a fan of the sport. He has been keeping up with all the news in the UFC and other combat sports and is finding some interest in the rise of Jake Paul in boxing.
Over the last few years, Jake Paul has secured himself as one of the most popular boxers in the sport. Although he is a long way from being called one of the greats, people enjoy watching him compete. The niche that he has created of fighting former MMA fighters is just the thing that people tune in for. These men such as Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren have had such success in MMA that people feel it should translate over to boxing, but so far it hasn’t. In his next fight, Paul will be facing another former UFC champion, Anderson Silva.

Silva came up in the UFC in the same era as St-Pierre. The two of them are said to be among the greats and the fans always wanted to see them fight each other. That bout never materialized, but now Silva has this chance to jump-start a new career in boxing and make some big money while doing it. St-Pierre is interested in this fight between a legend and a man who is on the rise in the sport. Although many people are looking for Silva to finally hand Paul his first loss, St-Pierre is giving Paul credit for his growth in the sport.
“I think as when we get closer to the fight the heat will start rising and maybe we’ll see some clash. I don’t think there should be any emotion, he knows he is fighting a legend, maybe but I think it’s one of his idols,” he said in an interview with The Schmo. “Every time we see Jake Paul he is improving at an incredible rate. So that’s the thing about him, people make fun they say he’s a YouTuber, he’s not only a YouTuber, he’s a fighter now, he’s more a fighter than a YouTuber. So he’s a very good boxer. He’s got great power, so I can’t wait to see this fight. We get the legend on one side, Anderson Silva, you know what I mean, who is boxing. And Jake Paul that he’s improving at a fantastic rate every fight so how these two guys will match up? It’s very interesting.”
Silva and Paul will be fighting on October 29 in Phoenix, Arizona at Gila River Arena.
