Eddie Alvarez is looking to sign a new contract that will finish off his career.

A former UFC champion is looking for some big fights and could be returning to the organization. Eddie Alvarez has come to the end of his run with ONE Championship and wants to end his career on his own terms. Alvarez left the UFC back in 2018 and has been fighting for ONE Championship ever since. During his time with the organization he fought in Japan, Singapore, and the Philippines, now Alvarez wants to return to fighting in front of his home crowd in the United States. He spoke about this and more on The MMA Hour.

“I would like my career to kind of finish up in the United States. When we originally sat down with ONE, the idea was to progressively move to the US so like, originally in the contract we’re going to be fighting in Asia and then my idea, my plan in my head was where I’m going to start in Asia and then toward the end of my contract, we’re going to move closer to the US and eventually get a fight there,” he explained. “Unfortunately, the pandemic kind of threw a wrench in all the plans and just slowed things up, slowed the progression of that. I’m going to be more than likely to sign on my last contract, just want to fight here in the United States.”

Eddie Alvarez Is Open To A UFC Return Or Superfight

Alvarez might be best known as the former UFC lightweight champion. His reign came to an end when he was defeated by Conor McGregor at UFC 205. His split with the company led him to ONE Championship in a surprising test of free agency. These days it is more likely for fighters to test free agency and find the right home for them. Now that Alvarez is free he could be entertaining a return to the UFC.

“I’ll fight anyone in the world, you name it, you know, even in the UFC. Like the UFC right now, out of the top eight, I’ve beaten four out of the top eight, and like three of them guys are in the mix for that, in the hunt for the title whether it’s Poirier, Gaethje, or Chandler, all three of them, I have wins over and they’re all in the hunt for the UFC title,” he said. “Even dos Anjos is number eight and I have wins over him so like to get back in that mix is awesome. To win another American World Title somewhere is awesome.”

Another option for Alvarez could be some big money fights. He would be willing to jump on the novelty fight trend and could take on one of the big-name free agents out there.

“To do a super fight with a new free agent who’s unsigned, you know, Aldo, I believe is free. I believe Nate is free. And I’m sure there’ll be other free guys within the next couple of months that are larger names that you can do a card with. There’s just a lot of opportunity out there and a lot of big names to make some good fights with.”

Alvarez says he is talking with all the promotions and will be listening to the fans as well. He wants to make the fans happy and will sign wherever there is the biggest interest.
