Eddie Alvarez has weighed in on a recent leaked email (thanks to a class action lawsuit) from 2010 detailing how UFC handled business dealings with Nate Diaz.

John S. Nash brought one email in particular to light where former UFC matchmaker Joe Silva told Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta that he lowballed Nate Diaz and said that if his team were to turn down a proposed money offer, then Diaz would be thrown on the prelims against a tough opponent.

“If they turn it down, I put him in a prelim against a really tough guy for his last fight,” Silva said.

Eddie Alvarez Says Leaked UFC Emails Should Serve As Warning to Young Fighters

Eddie Alvarez appeared on “The MMA Hour” and brought up the leaked email to Ariel Helwani. The former UFC lightweight champion said that young fighters should keep a note of how easily they can be messed around with behind the scenes and not even realize it.

“That’s important for the up and coming fighter who wants to be in this business for them to understand that if you’re not cooperative, what the conversation is in the boardroom if you’re not cooperative,” Alvarez said. “They’re the real conversations that are being had about you, the fighter, who’s signing these contracts if you don’t cooperate. I dealt with this with Bellator. I knew that they were trying to kill me off the minute I didn’t wanna stay, and when you don’t wanna stay and you don’t wanna cooperate, the next thing is ‘how do we get him beat? How do we devalue him to a point where he can’t fight for anyone else but us.”

Alvarez went to say that fighters now understand things are being said about them behind their backs.

“It’s so like, boom, right in your face,” Alvarez said. “It’s talked about and I guess it’s conspiracy theory, but now we see it. Like, oh wow, this is how they speak about us when we’re not around.”
