(Video) Demian Maia Shows His Best Submission From The Back

One of the best BJJ practioners of all time shows his best choke.

It is universally agreed upon that Demian Maia is one of the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners of all time. With his time in the UFC over, the BJJ ace has turned his sights back to what he knows best, grappling competitions.

Maia is going to compete at BJJ Stars 8 at the end of the month in Brazil on April 30. He will face  Alex Oliveira, who was recently released from the UFC.

But before Maia gets to showcase his elite grappling skills in competition, Maia recently collaborated ‘Bernardo Faria BJJ Fanatics’ and released a video of his best submission from the back.

The 44-year-old MMA veteran, Maia left UFC back in 2021 after finishing off his contracts. He last fought Gilbert Burns and Belal Muhammad, and suffered defeat in both fights.

Maia has fought a long list of top fighters across two weight classes, including Chael Sonnen, Carlos Condit, Ben Askren, Matt Brown and Neil Magny. Maia has prevailed in jiu-jitsu and no-gi competitions against opponents such as “Jacare” Souza, Rafael Lovato Jr., Gabriel Gonzaga and Yushin Okami.

The choke

One of the biggest takeaways from the video is that Maia explains this choke technique works well when an opponent tucks his chin to defend the choke.
