Alex Oliveira is no longer part of the UFC roster.
On Monday, MMA Junkie reported that 22 UFC fight veteran ‘Cowboy’ was not re-signed and is no longer tied to the promotion. MiddleEasy confirmed the news with a source close to the situation.
Manager Speaks On It
Oliveria’s manager Alex Davis spoke with MMA Junkie about his client’s release.
“It’s an unfortunate perspective of the sport that a fighter like Alex Oliveira, who winning or losing always lets it all hang out, ends up not being renewed after a string of losses.
“But that is the present moment in MMA. Alex thanks the UFC for the opportunities,” Davis said. “At 34 and healthy, he is sure to rebuild and put on many more great fights for everyone!”
Cowboy Oliveira’s legacy
Oliveira leaves the promotion on a four-fight losing streak, finished in three of them. It started when he welcomed Shavkat Rakhmonov to the UFC in 2020 on Fight Island and was submitted in the first round. He would then get submitted by Randy Brown at UFC 261, lose a unanimous decision to Niko Price, and then most recently; Kevin Holland stopped him at UFC 272.
The very popular Brazilian fighter collected three Performance of the Night bonuses and two Fight of the Nights. One of his Fight of the Nights was with Yancy Medeiros in 2017, which was universally loved and received Fight of the Year by ESPN and many other outlets.
The 34 year-old also headlined one UFC card against fellow ‘Cowboy’ Donald Cerrone.Oliveria holds wins over Tim Means, Max Griffin, Will Brooks, and K. J. Noons.
