Daniel Cormier doesn’t think much of Jon Jones’ latest legal drama.
On Wednesday, ‘Bones’ entered a plea of not guilty on a pair of misdemeanor charges against him during a virtual hearing in a New Mexico court following an alleged altercation with a drug testing agent at his home in March. According to a police report filed by Crystal Martinez, the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion “appeared agitated” when he was unable to provide her and an accompanying agent with a urine sample.
Jones vehemently denied the accusation.
If found guilty, Jones could face less than a year behind bars and up to $1,500 in fines for the charges which include a petty misdemeanor for assault and a misdemeanor for interference with communications.

As one of Jones’ fiercest rivals and loudest critics, it should come as no surprise that Daniel Cormier offered his take on the situation via his YouTube channel. However, ‘DC’ actually came to the defense of his former foe, suggesting that the situation has been overblown and that Jones is simply being scrutinized because of his celebrity status.
“I know that we all rush to judge Jones because of his past issues, but the reality is, if a man is at his house and he’s having some drinks in the confines of his own home, so what?” Cormier said. “It’s his right to do that. And if the drug testers come, and he might be a little bit tipsy or messed up, maybe the interactions aren’t as fun or as easy as they may have been in different other occasions.
“So, kind of always thought it was BS. I don’t think much is going to come of it, but because he is who he is, it’s always a story, regardless of what happens to this guy. And honestly, that’s kind of like living in the spotlight, but I think because of everything that he’s done in the past, the light shines a little brighter on him, even in situations where it shouldn’t. So, I don’t really think this is that big of a deal. Some of the things that happened in the past were much more serious.”
Daniel Cormier thinks Jon Jones’s recent misdemeanor charges are “BS”:
“I don’t really think that this is that big of a deal, I think it was always going to be a misdemeanor.”

Daniel Cormier Calls ‘Bullsh*t’ on Jon Jones’ Latest Legal Issue
It’s certainly not the first time Jon Jones has had a run-in with the law. In April 2015, ‘Bones’ was sentenced to 18 months of supervised probation following a hit-and-run incident in Albuquerque. He was subsequently stripped of the light heavyweight title and would not return to action until the following year.
In a December 2016 interview, Jones admitted that he had run from the scene of the accident and had not checked on the occupant of the other vehicle.
In 2021, he was arrested following a domestic dispute with his longtime fiancée Jessie Moses in Las Vegas. ‘Bones’ was caught attempting to flee the scene and was caught on a police dashcam headbutting the hood of a patrol vehicle.
“If you are a Jones hater, and you are hoping something comes of this, I don’t think it will,” Cormier added. “I think this man was bombarded a little bit, and I think that a misdemeanor is only the court’s way of taking some action because something has to be done when you do something wrong.”
He continued, “I’m not the judge, I’m not the jury, so it doesn’t really matter,” Cormier said. “I’m just a guy that doesn’t like a guy, that is actually standing up for that guy because I know it’s bullsh*t.”
