Colby Covington responded to those that think he doesn’t deserve the next UFC welterweight title shot.
At UFC 286, Covington weighed in as the backup for the main event title fight between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman. After Edwards emerged victorious, Dana White announced that ‘Chaos’ was his next title challenger. There was backlash from fans and fighters who believe the former interim welterweight champion doesn’t deserve the opportunity.
During an interview with InsideFighting, Covington had this to say about getting the title shot:
“Look at my resume, man. All my last fights, they’re not just contenders I’ve been beating, I’ve been beating first-ballot Hall of Famers. All my last fights, five world champions I’ve beaten in my last fights, headlining pay-per-views, selling fights. No one wants to see anybody more in the division than they wanna see me fight, so Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington is the welterweight division and I can’t wait to get my undisputed title this summer.”
Covington last fought in March 2022, defeating Jorge Masvidal by unanimous decision. Since then, ‘Chaos’ avoided the spotlight while dealing with an alleged assault by Masvidal at a restaurant in Miami. The 35-year-old is ready to make his Octagon return, which he hopes is in July or August.

Colby Covington reveals potential timeline for title fight against Leon Edwards
Dana White has confirmed multiple times that Colby Covington is the next title challenger at 170 pounds. The question is, when will Covington vs. Leon Edwards take place? The UFC is returning to London in July. There was hope that Edwards would defend his title in London, but he won’t accept the fight without an offer that makes sense to him.
During the same interview, Covington had this to say about when the UFC welterweight championship fight will take place:
“I can’t say it’s in July, could be in August, but Dana [White] is 100% getting it done and we’re fighting for the undisputed title next fight, so Leon’s got nowhere to run. We’re gonna get it done for America… 100%, I’m fighting for an undisputed world title in my next fight, whether Leon’s there or not, I will be fighting for the undisputed world title.”
Edwards last fought in March, securing a majority decision to defeat Kamaru Usman for the second consecutive time. Now that he’s silenced the doubters, ‘Rocky’ plans to capitalize on his achievement and ensure he’s in control of his future.
