Brandon Mills, the son of UFC legend Matt Hughes, did not emerge victorious in his first pro MMA outing.
Mills shared the cage with Jordan Clark in the co-main event of Caged Aggression 36 this past Saturday (October 14). This was on the same card headlined by a showdown between Pat Miletich and Mike Jackson. The action was held inside the River Center in Davenport, Iowa.
Matt Hughes’ Son, Brandon Mills, Loses Pro Debut
Brandon Mills was being cornered by his father Matt Hughes and former Strikeforce titleholder “King Mo” Muhammad Lawal.
Mills’ pro MMA debut against Clark went the distance. Most agreed that Clark had the more dominant positions, leading him to victory. All three judges scored the fight for Clark, with one judge scoring it 30-26. The other two judges had it far closer with scores of 29-28.
Clark sees his record improve to 3-1 as a pro, while Mills gets off to an 0-1 start. It’s surely disappointing for Mills, who had been a perfect 4-0 on the amateur scene.
Before Mills’ pro MMA debut, UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes told MMAJunkie that he fully supports his son’s journey in the MMA world.
“I know the lows of this sport just as much as I know the highs,” Hughes told MMA Junkie. “I can’t imagine any father would actually want their child to become a cage fighter. Those that do, have obviously not lived the life. I think there are a lot better and smarter ways to earn a living. And actually being good enough in this sport to make a living out of it is very rare. So yes, I did not want Brandon to choose this path. It’s a tough life and you need thick skin. Not something I wanna see my kid go through. … However, if he wants it, I’m going to support it.”
