Profile

Darren Till describes himself as “a big Welterweight”. He is one of the strongest competitors in the division known for gruesome punches and kicks. As a Muay Thai expert, The Gorilla uses quick strikes to neutralize his opponents. His trademarks are left cross and left body kick.

Till is also known for fantastic movement and excellent counterattacks. In the clinch, his strongest attack is a knee to the head while his hands are wrapped around the opponent’s neck.

On the ground, he prefers to punch or elbow the opponent out until the referee stops the fight. Till is a brown belt in Luta Livre which means his submissions are also great. He has one victory via inverted triangle choke and toe hold. He is still undefeated!

The Road To The Top

The Gorilla made his MMA debut on 23 February 2013, at Sparta MMA 3 in Balneário Camboriú, Brazil, where he defeated Luciano Oliveira Ribeiro via unanimous decision. Before joining UFC, he had a tremendous score of 12-0.

He started as a Middleweight competitor, then made a transition to Welterweight division in 2014. His fastest victories were earned versus Junior Dietz and Paulo Batista. Both fights were ended at 1:24 in the first round.

Darren Till – UFC Career

Darren Till had his UFC debut versus Wendell Oliveira at UFC Fight Night 67 on May 30, 2015, in Goiânia, Brazil, and won the fight via TKO (elbows) in the second round.

His next opponent was Nicolas Dalby at UFC Fight Night 76 on October 24, 2015. The fight was ended in a draw, with both fighters earning Fight Of The Night bonus.

The Gorilla had a major shoulder injury and a set of personal issues which kept him outside of octagon during 2016.

Other Fights:

Darren Till returned versus Jessin Ayari at UFC Fight Night 109, on May 28, 2017. The fight was a Catchweight bout since Till missed weight with 176 lbs and he was fined 20% of his purse. The Gorilla won via unanimous decision.

Till was successful against Serbian competitor Bojan Velickovic at UFC Fight Night 115 on September 2, 2017, earning another unanimous decision victory.

Darren Till Vs Donald Cerrone

The two faced at the main event of UFC Fight Night 118, on October 21, 2017. Donald Cerrone took him down on multiple occasions but The Gorilla was able to stand up quickly every single time. Till moved easily and delivering his left cross very successfully.

After a combination at the end of the first round, The Cowboy was rocked and turned his back on Darren Till, who continued delivering punch after punch. Cerrone fell to the ground, and the referee stopped the fight. Till earned his first Performance Of The Night award.

Darren Till Vs Stephen Thompson

Two rivals fought at the main event of UFC Fight Night 130 on May 27, 2018, in Liverpool, England. Till missed weight and he was punished 30% of his purse. He had 174.5 lbs, which is 3.5 pounds above Welterweight non-title fight. It proceeded as a Catchweight but Till couldn’t weigh more than 188 lbs on the day of the fight.

The fight was pretty much a stand-up game of experienced and very cautious fighters. The only ground and pound game was seen in the fifth round. Till won the fight via unanimous decision. John McCarthy believes Stephen Thompson won based on a scoring system, and Twitter reactions are also split. You can see the scorecard here, and also a detailed description of the fight.

He speaks English and Portuguese. The Gorilla had gotten a tattoo on his left arm of his ex-girlfriend, the mother of his child, for a birthday gift.

Some reporters were even asking him whether this is the tattoo of Paige VanZant, but Till claimed that he doesn’t even know who that is.
