Profile

Darren Till describes himself as “a big Welterweight”. He is one of the strongest competitors in the division known for gruesome punches and kicks. As a Muay Thai expert, The Gorilla uses quick strikes to neutralize his opponents. His trademarks are left cross and left body kick.

Till is also known for fantastic movement and excellent counterattacks. In the clinch, his strongest attack is a knee to the head while his hands are wrapped around the opponent’s neck.

On the ground, he prefers to punch or elbow the opponent out until the referee stops the fight. Till is a brown belt in Luta Livre which means his submissions are also great. He has one victory via inverted triangle choke and toe hold. He is still undefeated!

The Road To The Top

The Gorilla made his MMA debut on 23 February 2013, at Sparta MMA 3 in Balneário Camboriú, Brazil, where he defeated Luciano Oliveira Ribeiro via unanimous decision. Before joining UFC, he had a tremendous score of 12-0.

He started as a Middleweight competitor, then made a transition to Welterweight division in 2014. His fastest victories were earned versus Junior Dietz and Paulo Batista. Both fights were ended at 1:24 in the first round.

Two rivals fought at the main event of UFC Fight Night 130 on May 27, 2018, in Liverpool, England. Till missed weight and he was punished 30% of his purse. He had 174.5 lbs, which is 3.5 pounds above Welterweight non-title fight. It proceeded as a Catchweight but Till couldn’t weigh more than 188 lbs on the day of the fight.

The fight was pretty much a stand-up game of experienced and very cautious fighters. The only ground and pound game was seen in the fifth round. Till won the fight via unanimous decision.
