Boxing champion Gervonta Davis pleaded guilty in a hit-and-run case.

WBA lightweight titleholder Davis is coming off a win over Hector Luis Garcia in his latest appearance last month. Garcia started off strong against the more composed Davis in the first half of the bout. However, Davis came out firing late and scored a brutal finish on Garcia with a ninth-round TKO to extend his undefeated record to 28 wins.

Gervonta Davis pleads guilty in hit-and-run case

Earlier today, Gervonta Davis pleaded guilty to four counts based on a hit-and-run crash in November 2020 which resulted in the injury of four people, including a pregnant woman, as per ESPN. Davis’ sentencing is scheduled for May 5.

The 28-year-old boxing sensation was set to stand trial but waived the right. He did not offer any statements and nor did his lawyer, Michael Tomko, after the hearing. Baltimore Circuit Court Judge Althea M. Handy informed him that no agreement regarding the penalty at sentencing was reached.

Davis will be back in court on Feb. 23 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for an arraignment stemming from a misdemeanor domestic violence battery charge last December. He was accused of striking the mother of his 1-year-old daughter and pleaded not guilty. The woman filed an affidavit requesting the court to dismiss the charges later on Jan. 24.

Davis is expected to fight Ryan Garcia next

Former WBC boxing champion Ryan Garcia is currently in talks for booking a fight with Gervonta Davis for April 15 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Garcia was last seen in action with Javier Fortuna in Los Angeles last July. He asserted his dominance early in the contest, scoring three knockdowns en route to a commanding sixth-round knockout of Fortuna.

Garcia is under boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions and nearing confirmation on the bout agreement. Both men will put their unblemished records on the line for a highly-anticipated clash which is expected to take place about a month before Davis’ sentencing.
