UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley has detailed his desire to box Gervonta “Tank” Davis at some point.
O’Malley has expressed his belief that he can shock the world in a boxing match against Davis. “Tank’s” trainer Kenny Ellis declared his boxer would “whoop” O’Malley because he feels MMA fighters haven’t perfected punches in the way boxers do. The “Sugar” show believes he is the exception to Ellis’ rule.

Sean O’Malley Explains Wanting Gervonta Davis Fight
During an appearance on MMAFighting’s “The MMA Hour,” Sean O’Malley discussed the allure of a potential fight against “Tank” Davis. While he admits the buzz for such a fight isn’t currently at its peak, he feels it can be a massive attraction down the line.
“We’re both undefeated boxers,” O’Malley said. “It just make sense. That’s what you do when you’re both undefeated boxers, you go out there and you see who’s the best. Before that I was calling out Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis before they fought. Gervonta beat Ryan and it’s just a fight I would like in the future. I’m not calling for it next, I’m not saying this thing’s happening next. I need to go out there, knock out my next guy. He needs to go out there, continue to build himself and then we can have a Conor-Floyd situation. I’m not as big as Conor right now, he’s not as big as Floyd. So, I’m just planting the seed, letting it grow.”
O’Malley hasn’t spoken to UFC President Dana White about the matchup. With that said, The “Sugar” show did get a response from top UFC executive Hunter Campbell.
“I talked to Hunter before about the fight,” O’Malley revealed. “He said, ‘Hey, listen, if it’s a big enough fight, the UFC’s gonna wanna do it.'”
O’Malley did say that Campbell told him Davis’ star power is at the magnitude to make such a fight happen yet. The UFC executive did say that could very well change in the next few years.
