Dillon Danis explains the injuries that have kept him out of fighting and how he is getting paid more than any UFC champion.
Dillon Danis is getting ready for a new and different kind of fight than he is used to. The grappling standout has been signed to Bellator MMA since 2018. He fought only twice under that banner and has been out of competition due to various injuries and other reasons for the past three years. Now he is getting ready to step into the squared circle as he takes on YouTuber KSI.
This boxing match is set to be held at the Wembley Arena on January 14, 2023. This will be Danis’ first pro boxing match. Since he is known more for his grappling during his MMA days and prior, fans are anxious to see just how he fares with his striking. His opponent KSI has had three pro bouts so far and has won them all.
Dillon Danis explains why he is taking this bout and why he has been out for so long
Danis was a guest on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani when he explained the reason he had to be sidelined for so long and what compelled him to take this bout with KSI.
“So I had the knee surgery, it completely failed. So I had to get another surgery, which is another year. So basically two surgeries within a year,” he said. “They say it’s like being in two car accidents. So my knee was like completely f–ked… Once I’m ready to fight and now I’m ready to go. I’m still the same person, I’m still gonna choke everybody out, it’s easy, you know? I’m still the most relevant 2-0. And I’m about to make the biggest bag on anybody in MMA active. I’m making more than any UFC champion right now. Izzy he’s not a champion anymore, Conor’s not, right. I make more than any of them.”
Danis is very active on social media and is constantly calling out other fighters. He has been targeting Jake Paul for some time now. As it turns out Danis explains that he was actually set to face Logan Paul first but after an injury to Paul he switched to KSI.
“I was supposed to fight Logan, I don’t know if you know this. Logan was completely signed, 100% signed and we were gonna announce it that same day,” he said. “So that same day we’re gonna go announce me and Logan and then he did that match with Roman Reigns and he blew his knee out and then they were like oh you want to wait for Logan? So I could have waited for Logan but then he was like I don’t know about my knee could be six months. I’m like dude, I’ve been out long enough I’m want to fight so I just took KSI.”
Danis has become a big personality in combat sports due to his relationship with Conor McGregor coming up and his trash-talking. This bout could be his way back into fighting and if he wins could very well find himself back in demand either in boxing or MMA.
