Bodybuilding is growing at a tremendous pace around the globe. The sport has managed to expand its reach into new markets and territories unexplored in the past. As attractive as bodybuilding seems to a spectator, it is much more than that for the competitors on stage. In a recent video uploaded on Instagram, Jahid Hasan Shuvo of Bangladesh got enraged after placing second and kicked his prize (a blender) twice in frustration.

Bodybuilder banned for life after kicking 2nd place prize off stage

On Dec. 23 of last year, Shuvo made his way to the BABF National Bodybuilding Championships 2022. The professional competitor believed he had the right package to win the show and stood confidently in the lineup next to his fellow competitors. While there is no denying that he has an impressive physique, the judges did not think that he was the best man on stage.

In the Instagram video, Shuvo’s reaction to the result and his subsequent outburst can be seen. It starts off with the announcement when Shuvo gets called up to the stage as the show’s runner-up. Shuvo looked confused at the announcement. Meanwhile, another participant in the back gets overjoyed after finding out Shuvo did not win, possibly indicating he won the contest.

As Shuvo collected the trophy and a blender machine, he did not pay much attention to the organizers and looked on at the people in attendance. An organizer appeared to get unnecessarily hostile with Shuvo and almost demanded he walks away after getting a few snaps taken. Shuvo walked off the stage livid and threw away the blender machine out of agony. He followed up by kicking it twice further before getting the crowd fired up for his performance.

Shuvo later issued a statement explaining his actions and accused the Bangladesh Bodybuilding Federation (BBF) of being biased.

“This was a kick at corruption. Any kind of corruption in any place in our country,” he told media. “Even a child could tell the difference in physique between me and the winner. However, I would like to apologies for my reaction, because without context, it looks unpleasant for a sportsperson to do that.”

The BBF consulted with the International Federation of Bodybuilding (IFBB) on Dec. 25 and decided to give Shuvo a lifetime ban for his antics. Haji Peyar Mohammad, a former Bangladeshi bodybuilder and one of the judges at the event, chimed in with his thoughts on the incident.

“I have been in this sport for 32 years now but never saw such an incident before. There was a better player than him. There were 12 judges who picked their best and he just got fewer votes. There is win and loss in sport and one has to accept it, but he wasn’t able to hold his anger,” he told Dhaka Tribune. “I know him for a long time.

“I liked him. He had a promising future, but he just ruined his career with this incident. I feel bad for him because I could never imagine he could act like this.”
