Dos Santos and Werdum Set for Epic Bare-knuckle MMA Rematch

Dos Santos, known for his boxing-based skills, has been on a break following a shoulder injury that led to his loss against Yorgan De Castro at Eagle FC in May 2022. After undergoing two surgeries, the former UFC champion has returned to training, eager to make a comeback. His knockout win over Werdum in his UFC debut marked the beginning of an impressive winning streak, including victories over Cain Velasquez and Frank Mir.

“‘Cigano’ started his camp to face Werdum today,” dos Santos’ coach at American Top Team (ATT), Conan Silveira, told Sherdog. “I’m not sure if it was already officially announced but it will be at a Masvidal event under Vale Tudo rules, but with no gloves.” (h/t Sherdog)

Werdum, a skilled grappler with muay Thai striking, last competed in a PFL fight against Renan Ferreira in May 2021, which ended as a no-contest. Notably, Werdum secured the undisputed championship title with a third-round submission victory over Cain Velasquez at UFC 188.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the rematch between these two heavyweight veterans. The fight will take place on September 2nd but the location has yet to be confirmed, the fight will be held under the Gamebred Fighting Championship banner. Dos Santos, currently on a five-fight losing streak, aims to reclaim his former glory, while Werdum, at the age of 45 and showcasing excellent physical condition, seeks to prove his enduring skills that once made him a dominant force in the division.
