With rumors swirling on the UFC 305 card, many have wondered if Jorge Masvidal is playing things by ear for a possible return to MMA competition.
Masvidal called it a career following his unanimous decision loss to Gilbert Burns back in April at UFC 287. During his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, “Gamebred” said he didn’t feel like himself anymore stepping inside the Octagon. With UFC President Dana White hinting at big plans for a return to Miami, it’s led many to wonder if Masvidal would be open to making the walk again.
Jorge Masvidal Shuts Down UFC 305 Return Chatter
In an exclusive interview with Middle Easy, Jorge Masvidal was asked by Mike Owens if a return to the Octagon is possible should UFC 305 be held in Miami. “Gamebred” made it clear that it’s not on his mind at the moment.
“Nah, man, I’m retired, bro,” Masvidal said. “I got fights to promote and stuff, and I love MMA, just right now I just retired, man. I still try to go to the gym everyday, but that competition and a lot of the things that come with it, I just did it for 20 years. Bro, I love it, it’s my favorite sport in the world, this is my favorite thing, but just right now, nah, I ain’t fighting nobody right now.”
Masvidal has indeed been focused on fight promotion. He has been pulling in some big names for Gamebred Promotions. The former BMF titleholder has put together eight events with a ninth one set for September 8. Masvidal has hosted bare knuckle MMA and traditional boxing events.
Back in April, Gamebred Boxing 4 featured a bout between the legendary Roy Jones Jr. and former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis. The heavy hitters keep on coming as Gamebred Promotions will hold a bare knuckle MMA event featuring a clash between former UFC heavyweight champions Junior dos Santos and Fabricio Werdum.
