Jorge Masvidal is fully into promoting fights now.

Masvidal retired from MMA following a decision loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287 back in April. Since then, he has become a full-time promoter as he promoted Gamebred FC, which does bareknuckle MMA fights, which is a sport he loves.

“It’s slightly a different sport, how you play this sport. It has to be more precise. In the grappling department, you have the tape and gauze and gloves you put on which adds four-and-half, three inches, so that is not only more traction and grip, but that’s also both your place to get into,” Masvidal said to Middle Easy. “Let’s say I have somebody’s back, and we are here jockeying for position, as I’m catching your hand, it’s like married to my known because of the amount of friction. When you remove these gloves, when it’s no gloves the chance of me catching you from me being in a good position goes through the roof.”

Jorge Masvidal is set for his fifth bareknuckle MMA event on September 8 in Jacksonville, Florida. Although Masvidal has also been promoting boxing events, he does like the bareknuckle MMA and the main event of his next card is a rematch between Junior dos Santos vs. Fabricio Werdum.

Masvidal says dos Santos vs. Werdum 2 will be ‘a great fight’

The two fought back in 2008 at UFC 90 with dos Santos winning by first-round TKO. Given the two both went on to become UFC heavyweight champions, Jorge Masvidal says this is the biggest fight his promotion could make.

“I think for us, this was the biggest fight we could possibly make in the free market, free agents. Two highly decorated future Hall of Famers, world heavyweight champions, both guys were freaking amazing in their prime, JDS could’ve taken out anyway in his prime with blazing speed and power,” Masvidal said. “Werdum is so versatile, was a good jiu-jitsu guy who then got good in everything, could kick, knee, punch, and elbow. F*****g great fighters. JDS, I had the pleasure of seeing him in the gym and basically bullying, just bullying him when are you going to fight for me?”

Not only does Jorge Masvidal think dos Santos vs. Fabricio Werdum is the biggest fight he could make, he also expects it to be a very exciting scrap.

“Excitment-wise, I think it’s going to be the top-five fight of the year. In its own special world, because it’s bare-knuckle, there is nobody competing against it, this fight is going to be amazing no matter what, submission, knockout, decision, this is going to be a great fight. For us, I would ranked this is a five out of five, a ten out of 10, a 100 out of 10, for us in our stages right now,” Masvidal said.

Although Masvidal is still new to the promoting game, he appears to be on the right track to building a solid promotion.
