Hollywood sensation Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson gifted UFC prospect Themba Gorimbo a house in a surprise visit.
Themba Gorimbo emerged as a budding talent in the welterweight division over the last year. Having started his professional mixed martial arts career in 2013, Gorimbo dominated the regional African circuit before making his way to the UFC. He got matched up with AJ Fletcher for his debut under the banner. Fletcher spoiled the celebrations for Gorimbo by submitting him in round two. Gorimbo bounced back from the loss to get back in the winning column against Takashi Sato by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 223.
Following the bout, Gorimbo made headlines after revealing he came to the US with only seven dollars in his bank account, something The Rock could relate to. He auctioned off his fight kit to raise money for building a water pump in his village in Zimbabwe.
The Rock Gifts UFC Prospect Themba Gorimbo a House
In a recent Instagram post, The Rock gifted Themba Gorimbo a house near his gym in Miami.
Gorimbo had been sleeping on the couch at his gym and was saving up to get a place of his own. Now that he has a house, he will use that money to make another borehole in his village.
Themba said, “Thank you so much brother! You inspired me to work hard man. I will become a champion. Trust me. Believe me. I work so hard already.”
“Your story moved me,” responded The Rock. “When I found out you had seven bucks in your bank account. I know what that’s like. I was here in Miami when I had seven bucks. But then also you win your second fight then you sell your fight kit. You buy a water well for a village in Zimbabwe so your people can have clean water.
“Because you could have taken that money and put it down on a car, an apartment but you didn’t. You took care of your people. And that just says who you are. That’s why I flew all the way here to look you in the eyes and tell you I got your back brother.”
Johnson expands his presence in MMA
The Rock gained attention for his monstrous physique and athletic abilities inside the wrestling ring under the WWE banner. Following a successful run in the organization, he moved on to acting. Using the same discipline he developed as an athlete, Johnson became one of the highest-paid actors in the industry with multiple blockbusters under his belt.
Johnson made waves in MMA after he put the ‘BMF’ title on Jorge Masvidal in Nov. 2019. He partnered with the UFC for a collaborative launch of Project Rock X UFC footwear for the fighters.
After the second BMF title fight, Johnson lauded Dustin Poirier for how well he handled the loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 291 this past Saturday.
