Jose Aldo is one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time – and he’s finally decided to retire from Octagon competition. Now, however, he could be looking to tackle an entirely new venture within the combat sports world. Aldo hung up his gloves following his August defeat to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 278.

It ended an MMA career that began back in 2004 and included one of the most legendary runs as a champion within the 145-pound division. His overall record stands at 31 wins and 8 losses, with his last 20 fights occurring in the UFC.

During his career, Jose Aldo was widely regarded as a dominant fighter. He made his mark as the inaugural UFC featherweight champion and defended the title on seven separate occasions before being defeated by Conor McGregor in 2015. Despite this loss, Aldo was able to reclaim the featherweight championship the following year after McGregor vacated it. However, he ultimately lost this title in his next fight against Max Holloway.

Jose Aldo’s loss to Max Holloway marked the start of a difficult period in his career, with five defeats in seven fights. In 2019, he made the move to the bantamweight division. Despite a loss to Petr Yan at UFC 251, Aldo managed to bounce back with three consecutive wins before suffering his final defeat in the UFC against Merab Dvalishvili in August.

Now, there have been some rumblings that Aldo could finally be gearing up to try his hand in a professional boxing bout. As it turns out, that could actually come to fruition in 2023.

Jose Aldo Likely To Make Boxing Debut

According to a recent interview with Hardcore FC founder Anatoliy Sulyanov, there’s a very strong possibility that Aldo will box this upcoming March in 2023 in Dubai. He added that the legendary Sergey “Crusher” Kovalev could also be on the card.

“On March 18th there will be a big Hardcore Boxing event in Dubai,” Sulyanov said (via Telecomasia). “I’m not going to tell you the names yet, but José Aldo and most likely even Sergey “Crusher” Kovalev will be on the card. Aldo will fight with 99.9 percent probability, we’re negotiating with Sergey now.”

As for who Aldo’s potential opponent could be, that remains to be seen. However, during his time in the UFC Aldo’s boxing was always noted as one of his stronger attributes inside the Octagon. It will be interesting to see how that translates into a professional boxing environment.
