  • “Bon Gamin” eyes another shot at the heavyweight title

Ciryl Gane made a statement with his TKO victory over Sergey Spivak at UFC Paris. Reflecting on his performance, “Bon Gamin” acknowledged the help from the crowd and talked about getting back to title contention.

The crowd went crazy

Speaking to reporters in his post-fight presser, Gane admitted to feeling the “pressure” inside the cage. However, he still managed to shake it off and be at his best. Gane said part of his success was the thought that the home crowd was backing him all throughout the fight and it did help him keep his rhythm.

“I’m not really stressed but I got the pressure. I’m not going to lie: I’ve got the pressure, and I want to do well… “This is not a game of basketball or soccer. That’s different. Just that, you have some emotion that’s really different, a little bit afraid, a little bit pressured. You want to do well… Tonight, I know the crowd will be crazy and I did very well,” Gane said.

It’s a new era

Gane recognized the rise of other top heavyweight contenders and said he knows it’s not gonna be easy to dominate the “new era” of fighters that Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic may leave. However, “Bon Gamin” insisted that whatever happens to upcoming title fight between the two, his plan remains as it is and it’s to fight for the title once again.

“To have a comeback like that, I proved that I’m still here… That was my mission to shine tonight because I want to go back to the belt. This is my race, and I want to do that,” Gane pointed out.

“The division now… you have big-level now. This is a new era for the heavyweight division and you have some big movement. We were waiting for a big title fight with two GOATs. Maybe they’re going to retire. So for me, the good way is to go back. It was my mission tonight to shine and prove I’m still here, and I want to go back to the belt. So, we will see,” he concluded.

Gane lost in his two title fights in the past, one against Jones and one against Francis Ngannou. However, he always managed to re-establish himself as a title challenger. After another huge win, it’s no surprise if Gane earns a crack at the heavyweight title.
