Dana White Talks UFC 244 Having To Compete With Canelo vs Kovalev
UFC 244 takes place on the same night as Canelo Alvarez vs Sergey Kovalev. Despite that, UFC President Dana White is not concerned.
UFC 244 is headlined by Nate Diaz vs Jorge Masvidal for the BMF Title. It is a highly anticipated bout, despite the fact that they are not fighting for a traditional belt. The bout takes place on November 2nd, at Madison Square Garden.
However, this is not the only big event happening in combat sports on that day. In the boxing world, massive star Canelo Alvarez is moving up two weight classes to take on Sergey Kovalev. Subsequently, there is some concerned about how well these two events will sell, going against each other.
Despite this, Dana White does not seem to be worried. At the UFC 244 Pre-Fight Press Conference, White was asked about the two events going head to head. He explained how the situation unfolded.
“So, the night we started talking – we started talking about this date and that we were going to take this date, and then a week late I heard they were going to do that fight.
I think they’re crazy to go the same night as us on DAZN, but it is what it is. But if they time it right, and they do this thing the right way, it could be very much like the other night when Gaethje fought Cowboy, and then the Fury fight was on after. So if they time it right, it could work out. But if they want to go head-to-head, they’re f—ing nuts.”
Dana White does not appeared bothered by the fact that UFC 244 takes place at the same time as a massive boxing event, so long as it is timed properly.
