Stipe Miocic Clears The Air On Tom Aspinall’s Title Shot Disappointment, Shares Future Intentions

Stipe Miocic has responded to Tom Aspinall's frustration by insisting the latter must wait until after Jon Jones' return fight.

Stipe Miocic responded to Tom Aspinall after the latter went off on Twitter about the ongoing situation in the UFC heavyweight division.

On November 11, 2023, Jon Jones was scheduled to defend his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic in the UFC 295 main event. Unfortunately, Jones suffered a torn pectoral muscle while training, leading to a lengthy recovery process that postponed the legacy fight until mid-2024.

As a result, Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich fought for the interim heavyweight title in the UFC 295 co-main event. Aspinall shut down the hard-hitting Russian and secured a first-round knockout, putting him in a weird position.

Dana White has confirmed Jones vs. Miocic will be rescheduled in 2024. Therefore, Aspinall must defend the interim title, which isn’t a usual occurrence, or endure a long layoff and ruin his momentum.

Aspinall has become frustrated by the situation, as he wants to test himself against Jones for the undisputed title. The 30-year-old superstar’s emotions boiled over into a recent Twitter rant that included the following message:

“Last time Stipe fought and won, GTA: San Andreas had just come out on PS2. He will fight next for the undisputed heavyweight title, ahead of me, who’s the interim champ, active and ranked #1 in the world right now. This makes me quite upset”

Miocic responded to Aspinall by saying:

“I have never caused a delay in the Jon fight. Tom, once I get this win, let’s talk to unify the belt.”

When did Stipe Miocic last fight?

Stipe Miocic was once an active heavyweight who would fight at least two times a year. Yet, the 41-year-old former UFC champion has slowed down over the last five years, arguably because of the legendary trilogy series with Daniel Cormier.

Since then, Miocic has experienced fewer Octagon appearances to ensure he’s fully healthy and prepared.

Miocic last fought in March 2021, when Francis Ngannou dethroned him of the UFC heavyweight throne with a second-round knockout. Meanwhile, the Ohio native hasn’t won a fight since getting his hand raised by unanimous decision in their August 2020 trilogy bout.
