The mythical Georges St. Pierre vs. Anderson Silva superfight seems to be taking shape

A long time ago in a kingdom far away, MiddleEasy created an article titled ‘The Top Ten Fights We Want To See Before 2012 Blows Up The Earth Or Something.’ In the piece we discuss all the potential fights we would like to see before the (at the time) impending 2012 Mayan apocalypse ravaged the world with whatever mystical armageddon was foretold by the ancients. December 21st 2012 happened — and I think the most extraordinary thing that occurred that day was the city of Los Angeles giving me a parking ticket while I was at Veggie Grill on Sunset Ave.

However ranking in at the number nine spot of our list was a hypothetical match-up between GSP and Silva. Yeah, our priorities back in 2009 were a little bit different. The #1 fight we wanted to witness was Fedor vs. Brock followed by Shinya Aoki vs. BJ Penn. Since Fedor seems to be adamant on never returning to the sport, GSP vs. Silva will definitely do.

In a recent interview with Brazil’s UOL (translated by Bloody Elbow), Georges St. Pierre discusses coming back to the UFC and a potential fight against fellow returning former champion, Anderson Silva.

There were conversations before but they were talking about me going up at 185,” said GSP. “I weigh 190 pounds, the guy weighs 230 pounds when he is off season. I’m 190 pounds off season. Right now I’m 195 at maximum. My friends saw him and he is now 230, 235. I know people who know him. He is very big. It’s not a fair fight for me. Before, Anderson Silva was in my size when he used to fight in Japan but he is very big now.

“They were talking also that he was going to come in my division when I was the champion and I would have no choice. But me going up and after I fight go back down…I can’t play with my weight. I can’t come back and fight for the title or in a superfight. It has to respect my conditions, I all ask is a fair fight. Right now I need to take some time off. But if they have an offer with something good, maybe.

Also, if you didn’t read that entire quote in a French-Canadian accent then I can never believe a word you have to say for the rest of your life. Props to Systemrecords for the +100 news tip.
