Embedded is now a part of fight week like my beard is a part of my face, and this final episode of Embedded is focusing on the weight cut, which I liken to growing a long beard. Cutting weight requires a sort of mental fortitude that few people possess, and not shaving your face for a year or so also requires focus and determination that is only appreciated in certain contexts.
I’m no stranger to the sauna, and usually when I go, I want to try to stick it out as long as I can just to channel my inner masochist/MMA fighter. Whenever I get a chance, I talk to a fighter about their weight-cutting routines (I’ve been fascinated by the various routines since befriending wrestlers in high school, weirdest things they did back then in the midwest was smoke cigarettes so they wouldn’t eat) and take mental notes. I usually ask the same questions of anyone growing a massive beard.
I know this article’s body is dedicated to a really narrow sect of people, but that’s okay. Maybe you skipped it or are wanting me to move on, so I will. Just watch Chris Weidman, Lyoto Machida, Ronda Rousey and Alexis Davis prepare for weigh-ins below (I love Embedded).
