First off, ‘Big Nog’ is an astronomically better nickname than ‘Minotauro’. A minotaur is one of these. A family of minotaurs is what lives above me and decides to stampede at 5am in the morning. Apparently minotaurs need slippers. A minotaur is what you need to scare the hell out of your neighbor in the middle of the night. Minotaurs are probably mean tap dancers. A pair of socks for a minotaur is a couple of sleeping bags.
Sculptor Chuck Ham has created this rawesome depiction of Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira in Super Sculpey with the entire bust being around five inches tall. Check out what the artist said in his official blog. Props to Deowade for the find.
I’ve always loved the look of Rodrigo’s face. He’s got such great character in his features. The way he wears all his emotions and his history on the surface of his face is just beautiful. It’s authentic. It’s like a map of his life. ….and I’ve been meaning to do a modernize interpretation of the Minotaur creature for a while now….. I figured why not combine the two. I suppose it’s only fitting that I chose Rodrigo Nogueira since his nickname is ‘Minotauro’. A beast that roamed the Labyrinths is now a beast that roams the Octagon…
The proportions and symmentry of his face were more difficult than I had imagined. There’s a certain innocense and child-like wonder in Minotauro’s eyes that I wanted to capture. Hopefully I did him justice.
