Patchy Mix Submits Sergio Pettis in Round 2 to Claim Bantamweight Title – Bellator 301 Results (Highlights)

Mix made easy work of Pettis in the Bellator 301 co-main event on Friday night

It was a clash of champions at Bellator 301 when reigning bantamweight champion Sergio Pettis returned to the cage determined to unify his gold with that of interim titleholder Patchy Mix. 

Round 1

Mix comes out immediately looking to put pressure on Pettis early. Mix gets his kicking game going early targeting Pettis’ body. Pettis goes upstairs with a kick and Mix quickly shoots for a takedown in response. Mix lifts Pettis off the ground, drags him toward the center of the cage, and slams the champ to the ground. Pettis slowly works his body back toward the cage. Mix passes half-guard and moves into side control. Mix attempts to move into full mount, but Pettis is defends with his butterfly guard forcing Mix to move back into side control.

Mix begins laying down some strikes on Pettis, including a solid elbow strike. Mix goes to the body with some knees. The first round comes to an end with Mix in firm control on the ground.

Round 2

Mix once again pressures Pettis against the fence. Pettis fires a right hand that gets Mix to back off momentarily. Mix again works Pettis against the fence and shoots in for a takedown, dragging Pettis down to the canvas. Pettis pops back up, but gives up his back on the process, allowing Mix to force him back down. Mix secures a body triangle and goes to work, fishing for a rear-naked choke. 

Mix gets his arm under the chin and tightens his grip with the aid of his other hand forcing Pettis to tap out in the second round.

Official Result: Patchy Mix def. Sergio Pettis via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:51 of Round 2.
