Sean O’Malley Is ‘Super Upset’ He’s Not Fighting Henry Cejudo At UFC 285: ‘It Would’ve Been Perfect’

UFC 285 is shaping up to be a great card… but it’s missing one Sean O’Malley

‘It Would’ve Been Perfect, Me vs. Henry’

Following his win over Petr Yan, the #1 bantamweight contender was hoping to get a crack at UFC gold. Since the injured champ Aljamain Sterling likely won’t fight in March, O’Malley wouldn’t mind fighting Henry Cejudo at UFC 285 for an interim title.

However, it doesn’t look like that will happen as three title fights are on the horizon for the pay-per-view. Jon Jones vs. Ciryl Gane and Valentina Shevchenko vs. Alexa Grasso have already been confirmed to be happening with Amanda Nunes vs. Irene Aldana still in the works.

O’Malley isn’t too happy about not fighting in Las Vegas this time around.

“God, I’m super upset,” O’Malley said on his podcast. “I wonder if they’re gonna add Amanda Nunes to that, cause you gotta [have a back-up for the main event]. If you look at the history of Jon Jones, something could happen. So you have to have a card that will still be okay-ish without Jon Jones. Because if Jon Jones, something happens and that’s the main event: Valentina vs. Alexa Grasso. I’m just saying that’s not gonna do good [numbers]. If they also add Amanda Nunes to defend her belt. So then you have still a double champ or two Titles, still decent.

“It would’ve been perfect me vs. Henry for the interim belt right under there,” O’Malley continued. “Tell me that ain’t fire. I wish they would [add it], too. I don’t know. I text Hunter [Campbell], I talked to Sean Shelby. I said, ‘will you at least give me an idea? Will he say yes or no? Is Henry vs. Aljo happening?’ They just don’t know. I don’t know if Henry or Aljo is— they’re just kind of trying to wait to see if he can or what, but I’m frustrated. But I’m okay because I’m just training.”

O’Malley Is Staying Ready

‘Suga’ was sure that he was going to fight Cejudo at UFC 285, but not everything goes according to plan. Instead the UFC superstar will be waiting in the wings to see if any opportunities present themselves.

“God dude, I really thought I was going to get that Henry fight. I’ll be ready, call me, text me. That sucks but whatever, I’ll just stay ready.”
