UPDATE:

Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane will face off on March 4 for the undisputed heavyweight championship.

The attention of MMA fans was taken away from UFC Vegas 67 as breaking news spread rapidly. A photo of T-Mobile Arena surfaced on social media with a shocking image on the jumbotron. La Seura, a French media outlet, posted a photo of T-Mobile Arena displaying an advertisement for Jones vs. Gane at UFC 285 on March 4.

‘Bones has been looking for a heavyweight opponent for several months. Current heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou was the primary target, but he’s still recovering from knee surgery and re-negotiating with the UFC. Meanwhile, Stipe Miocic was another option that didn’t pan out, as the former world champion wasn’t fully committed.

After the T-Mobile Arena advertisement was leaked, rumors began spreading about the deal potentially not being completed. Following UFC Vegas 67, Dana White confirmed Jones and Gane will be fighting for the undisputed heavyweight championship on March 4.

Jon Jones confirms he’s fighting Ciryl Gane for the UFC heavyweight title.

Jon Jones has been seen training with Henry Cejudo during his extended layoff. The former UFC light heavyweight champion was recently at Cejudo’s Fight Ready gym, where he revealed his upcoming fight against Ciryl Gane. ‘Bones’ had this to say:

“Day one of four, and just a few weeks out from my first heavyweight championship fight against Ciryl Gane.”

Jones is a massive supporter of Cejudo’s coaching knowledge, which has been associated with several UFC champions over the past few years. During the same video, ‘Bones’ was asked about potentially continuing to train with ‘Triple C,’ and he responded by saying:

“I just happened to be in town… I’m glad I came out here. Henry is just so intelligent. He’s such a great leader and tactician, and it’s just been great… I’d love t have Henry coaching me for this Ciryl Gane fight. Hopefully our schedules can align, and we can get on the same page. He could be one of my corners.”

Bones last fought against Dominick Reyes in February 2020 at UFC 247. Since then, the former UFC light heavyweight champion has committed to properly transitioning his body to the heavyweight division. Jones will fight Gane, who took out Tai Tuivasa after losing his world title fight against Francis N’Gannou.
